What is Pop Art?
Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the 1950s and flourished in the 1960s in America and Britain, drawing inspiration from sources in popular and commercial culture.
The movement presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books, and mundane mass-produced objects. Different cultures and countries contributed to the movement during the 1960s and 70s.

They made art that mirrored, critiqued, and, at times, incorporated everyday items, consumer goods, and mass media messaging and imagery. About its intended popular appeal and its engagement with popular culture, That's why they called Pop art.
By incorporating logos or impersonal imagery reinforced the idea that art could be inspired by anything and everything, not just history, mythology, or morality. Pop Art is often characterized by bold colors, particularly the primary colours: red, blue, and yellow. That's what makes the Art pop!
Now why is Pop Art so popular?

Pop Art often uses vivid primary colours such as red, blue and yellow, along with high-contrast combinations. These hues reflect the movement's aim to embrace consumer culture and create art full of energy and modernity. These vibrant colours grab attention and challenge traditional artistic norms. That's why Pop Art is so colorful.

Who created Pop Art?
You must be guessing Andy Warhol, but let's find out and see if he is the creator of pop art or not!
Pop Art's creation is credited to Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi (Ed wardo Puh low zee) and his fellow members of London's The Independent Group. Beginning in 1952, this group of artists, architects, and writers met and initiated the Pop Art movement. The 'Pop' within Pop Art was taken from a 1947 collage by Paolozzi.
Andy Warhol is famous for pioneering Pop Art, a movement he significantly shaped by elevating everyday objects to high art status. Although he didn't invent Pop Art, Warhol's iconic works, like the Campbell's Soup Cans and Marilyn Monroe portraits, played a pivotal role in popularising the movement.
Famous Artists of the Pop Art period
Now let’s take a look at some of the most well-known artists in the Pop Art period!
Andy Warhol (1928–1987) Andy Warhol is known for his bright, colorful paintings and prints of subjects ranging from celebrities including Marilyn Monroe and Mohammed Ali. To everyday products such as cans of soup and Brillo pads. But behind these iconic images are some surprising approaches and ideas.
Robert Rauschenberg (1925–2008) Rauschenberg is well known for his Combines (1954–1964), a group of artworks that incorporated everyday objects as art materials and which blurred the distinctions between painting and sculpture.
He emerged on the American art scene at the time that Abstract Expressionism was dominant, and through the course of his practice, he challenged the gestural abstract painting and the model of the heroic, self-expressive artist championed by that movement.
Jasper Johns (May 15, 1930) He made signs, such as flags, the main images in many of his works. In assembling his works, Johns utilized items found in everyday life such as newspapers, found objects, and mass-produced goods. Johns's style went on to influence major movements such as Pop, Minimal, and Conceptual Art.
Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997) He became famous for his bright and bold paintings of comic strip cartoons as well as his paintings of everyday objects. He was one of a group of artists making art in the 1960s who were called pop artists because they made art about 'popular' things such as TV, celebrities, fast food, pop music and cartoons.
